LELAND LIVINGSTON SCOTTISH SCHOLARSHIP
GUIDELINES

1. Applications should made available for possible prospects interested in applying for a scholarship.
2. The Executive Board will assign the amount available for scholarships.
3. The scholarship chairperson makes the request for the money at the March meeting.
4. Scholarships are awarded on merit and on judgement of past and continued interest. Need will be
a factor, but not a prerequisite.
5. Members and children of members of Scottish Clan of North Texas would receive a high priority.
6. Alternate choices should be made in case there is a default by one of the prospective winners.
7. In the event of a lack of applications, the scholarship chairperson will notify area schools that a
scholarship is available to assist a person or persons who meets the scholarship criteria.
8. All applications should be sent to the scholarship chairperson. Deadline is May 1 of each year.
9. Copies of the applications will be given by the scholarship chairperson to each of the
committee members. These members are appointed by the Chief. The members will vote and send
their selection back to the scholarship chairperson before June 1.
10. A committee member will recuse his/her self from voting on the recipient of the scholarship should
a family member apply for said scholarship. The chairperson will then exercise his/her duty to vote
in the case of a tie.
11. The scholarship chairperson will tally the votes and send the results to the Chief.
12. The scholarship chairperson will contact the winners along with letters to any applicant who did not
receive a scholarship.
13. The exchequer will be notified of the winner/winners by the Chief.
14. The scholarship chairperson will contact the scholarship committee members with the results. The
Chief will report to the membership.
15. Winners would be invited to Scottish Clans of North Texas activities if possible.
